Bitcoin Fundamentals with Jerald Dana Cole (Attendee will be issued a fraction bitcoin)

Event Date: November 10, 2018 @ 7:30PM – 9:30PM

This is a 2-hour seminar on bitcoin for beginners. The focus is on bitcoin use for mercantile exchanges (products and services—not investments).

Bitcoin and related cryptocurrencies are gaining in popularity—particularly among the unbanked. The letter includes individuals with baseline incomes who cannot afford bank account maintenance fees and those denied accounts due to bad credit.

It is estimated that up to 40% of exchanges in developing countries and the inner city are based on alternative currencies. Venezuela and Russia are also looking into cryptocurrencies as a means of dodging economic sanctions and side-stepping questionable financial practices.

Participants will be taught how to install a digital wallet on their mobile devices and be issued a fraction of a bitcoin. They will then exchange bitcoin with one another and purchase an inexpensive item or service online.

We will then look at how to obtain bitcoin from a subset of online exchanges.
Finally, we’ll present the underlying technology, look at ways to secure one’s holdings and discuss the future of fintech.
