  • After 9:00 pm – Singing with Jonathan Bricklin

Liling Zheng – 郑立玲, is a professor of electrical engineering with a natural ability to see inside human body and sense energy and things beyond an ordinary person, which is referred to as the third wisdom eye open in Chinese culture. Liling’s awakening journey began when she noticed that many Qigong practitioners who practiced Qigong or Taichi were not able to recover or escape illness and death. She then explored the root causes of illnesses and found that unresolved emotional issues caused 90% of the illnesses, not awakened patients though Qi Gong Tai Chi practices can help in general, but not understanding one’s heart and innate nature, when encounter challenges, especially emotional ones, most practitioners break down.

Liling’s path was a journey of awakening, which included understanding the Dao De Jing and many Buddhist sutras. The hostess of Eastover Mrs. Wang was fortunate enough to accompany her on this journey for the last three years, meditating together everyday rain and shine. Half of their meditation group members were cancer and stroke survivors. This journey was about letting go, becoming aware, awakening, and following the Dao.

SATURDAY PRESENTATIONS

  • 9:00 am – 12:00 pm: Practice, practice, and practice: we are going to use this time to learn to stump the feet and patting our body.

John Hopkins Bio-physics PH.D and University professor 维工王 had studied and how our body published many books on how our body function and stay vibrant and healthy. The Chinese medicine theory and vibrational science through the tools of western science demonstrated health is all about each organs vibrational frequency and the harmony of the organs’ vibration commanded and coordinated by the heart. Past injuries including physical body injury or emotional injury greatly affects each organs vibration, they lodge in the body in the form of dampness or cold wind, often we carry on life without even notice them. These cause symptoms like authorities, high blood pressures, diabetes, …, as named in western medicine. When one organ not vibrate as usual or the organs not vibrate in harmony, disease appear. For example a sad person would have an under perform lung or pericardium. A stressed out person would have a bad heart. Combined with findings from long time Daoist, Chan, Buddhist, Yoga practitioners, dysfunctional body usually has obvious energetic expressions like dark energy, stagnated energy, weak energy, …., the great news most of these can be easily corrected by simple self practice. For example stumping the feet transmit energetic vibration to the kidney and whole body most effective. So is other practices, this is just very fast and effective for many beginners. Beating or patting the body or head can help clean out stagnated energy in short time. After covid or after covid shots many has dizziness and tinnitus, patting the head for a period of time can solve the problem which hospitals cannot.

Jonathan Bricklin – Led to Taiji by a mystical experience

After a mystical experience on a Vipassana meditation retreat undermined his common-sense understanding of reality, Jonathan went on a quest to explore the nature of consciousness. He began with William James’s classic text, The Principles of Psychology. Reading this text, followed by 3 decades of reading other works of James, has been, he said, like falling down Lewis Carroll’s rabbit hole. He is the author of The Illusion of Will, Self, and Time: William James’s Reluctant Guide to Enlightenment (SUNY Press), a Chicago Seminary Co-op Notable Book Award Winner for 2016, and the Editor of the critically acclaimed anthology Sciousness (Eirini Press). His radical reconstructions of James have been published in numerous international journals and magazines. Oliver Sacks has praised his work as “full of interest and originality… the ghost of William James is surely happy to see it.” Eugene Taylor, author of William James on Consciousness Beyond the Margin and the recipient of the APA Lifetime Achievement Award, wrote that “Bricklin advances James on consciousness farther than anyone.” Jonathan is a former Program Director of the New York Open Center and has been studying Tai Chi for 3 decades.  jonathanbricklin.org

Saturday 6:30am – 7:50am before breakfast Morning Meditation with Teacher Tan, Tiliao.

Teacher Tan was born in a traditional Chinese Medicine – Xu family. The Xu Family needling method (acupuncture technic) has been recognized by the Nang Ping city as an Intangible Heritance Treasure. Tan is the 12th generation lineage inheritor. Immediately upon graduating from college, Tan was very attracted to the rich original ancient Buddhist teachings. He became a monk at Xiamen South Putuo Buddhist Temple. He studied in the Min Nan Buddhist College. He went through lots of hardships traveling via Philippines to Thailand where he followed the Forest Buddhist Tradition with (阿姜摩訶布瓦- Achaan Mahaa Boowe) Ajahn Chah Subhatto for 11 years. Subsequently, he continued practicing at Korean Snow Mountain Temple for the next 6 years. In addition to observations about the mind, he has a depth of experience in practicing White Skeleton Meditation. His 20 years of meditation practice brought him insights into the Chinese Medicine and needling art(acupuncture). With this advanced and highly developed awareness and awakening, Tan went on to resolve the thousand years’ old mystery of the primordial energy transforming itself into Qi, and how the Qi then would go on to influence the soul. The breath and White Skeleton make our mind overcome our pain and help us enter the state of tranquility. While our Qi channels are in the process of getting purified, our muscles begin to rejuvenate, areas of stagnations are eliminated and mind awareness begin to improve. As our energy channels become visible, observing our body is like reading Chinese medicine classic: Inner Canon of The Yellow Emperor (黄帝内经), and observing internal energy moving channel is like reading the book of “Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases” (伤寒论). As the science of life is revealed in Chinese medicine, our human body is naturally characterized and exhibited in the natural law of harmony.

2:30 pm – 3:30pm Livia Kohn on The Daoist Dimensions of Taiji

Taiji is a popular method of self-cultivation and health enhancement that goes back far in history. To facilitate the smooth movements of the form, teachers often emphasize certain key ideals, such as overall freedom from tension or relaxation, an upright posture, natural breathing, a sense of centrality, weight separation, mental focus, and an awareness of the body (and nature) as one unity. These concepts relate directly to certain core Daoist values, most importantly, oneness or the holographic nature of the universe, continuous change and constant motion, naturalness (spontaneity), nonaction or pervasive fluidity, as well as authenticity, integrity, simplicity, and sufficiency. This presentation describes how its practice embodies key aspects of Daoist philosophy, cosmology, and ethics.

Livia Kohn is Professor Emerita of Religion & East Asian Studies at Boston University. Her specialty is Daoism and the study of Chinese longevity practices. She has written and edited numerous books and articles. A long-term practitioner of taiji quan and meditation, she is also a certified instructor of yoga and qigong. A top Daoist scholar, she is expert at outlining the details of all kinds of practices and placing them in a relevant context, both historically and as relevant for our lives today.

Livia earned her Ph. D. in 1980. After six years at Kyoto University in Japan, she joined Boston University as Professor of Religion and East Asian Studies in 1988, then returned to Kyoto twice more for two-year stays. She has also worked variously as visiting professor and adjunct faculty at Eötvös Lorand University in Budapest, the Stanford Center for Japanese Studies in Kyoto, Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio, San Francisco State University, and the Taoist College Singapore. taichi qigong taijiquan qigong taichi taichi world qigong taichi day

World Taichi Qigong Day was very successful! Check out our testimonials:

Big congratulations for the success of your first, real WTCQD at Eastover.  The program was well put together with an interesting and experienced assortment of presenters.  I appreciated the way the presenters were flexible to adapt their talk or demonstration to add something fresh to the program.  They went with the flow as, of course, they would.  The taiji demonstrations right after lunch were well timed to add something light, colorful, musical and well performed.  Most enjoyable.  I’m sure word will spread so that even more people will attend next year.

Wholehearted thanks to the whole community coming together for this very important event; continuing such work will change our economy with less doctor visits. Not only people will be happier, they will be more productive. Nature will benefit, because Qigong, Taichi, and TCM people care, love, and respect nature.

“Ying, thank you so much for hosting such an amazing weekend. I learned and experienced a lot. I look forward to coming back soon for a retreat!
Warm Regards,
Mark from CT”

Dear Ann, It was so wonderful to spent time at the Eastover Estate and met so many wonderful people over the weekend! I had a great two day sleep over there and even when I came back home Last night, I slept from 9 pm to 6:30 am this morning, never had such a good and peaceful sleep. I dreamed many little creatures fly away from my head. And I wake up with a much cleaner head. Doesn’t this mean “放下- letting go“?

Thank You for the marvelous Weekend – I wanted to thank you for your generosity and welcoming as well as for the wonderful Qigong weekend at Eastover.
The opportunity to connect with such great masters was unique and powerful.
I hope that you keep me in mind for any future presentations as I would love to be present in the dynamic flow of wellness services and education at Eastover
My special rapport with Jay Emmanuel is also something for which I am grateful and this weekend helped me to establish a continued relationship with him.

Your warm staff and personal deserves a special mention, they were all very helpful and professional

Thanks again!

Yours Truly

Carlos
