Tai Chi For Health + Flying Phoenix Qigong (3 days) Second Workshop with Sifu Terry Dunn

Oct 15, 2019 - Oct 18, 2019

Workshop No.2: Tai Chi For Health (3 days) October 15 to 18
(starts Tuesday night; ends Friday 6pm)

In this 5-day, 35-hour immersive workshop, Terry Dunn will provide students of all levels with expert, step-by-step instruction in the 60-posture Yang Style Tai Chi Short Form created by his teacher, Grandmaster William C.C. Chen. To accelerate the learning and refinement of your Tai Chi form, you will be exposed to a wide repertoire of easy-to-do classical Tai Chi warm-up and conditioning exercises that Terry has distilled and developed over the past 44 years of his martial arts career from several traditions. This includes: (a) classical Yang Style exercises; (b) Silk-Weaver’s Exercise; (c ) Qing Dynasty Imperial Guard Exercises; (d) select of the “Silk-reeling” (chan su jin) exercises of Chen Style Tai Chi Chuan.

In addition to 5 hours of Form practice a day, you will also be coached in Push-Hands (Tui-shou) and the Yang style Tai Chi sword form for a total of 2 hours each day.  Push-hands is the fun and collaborative laboratory for learning the martial applications of Tai Chi Chuan’s “soft power” and applying Tai Chi principles to everyday life. Push-hands is best learned after one has proficiency in the solo Form.  Tai Chi swordplay is practiced in order to “move like a dragon swimming in the clouds” and to deepen  Qi cultivation into the bone marrow.

This workshop is appropriate for students at all levels of Tai Chi experience–from absolute beginners to intermediate and advanced students who have Tai Chi forms under their belt and are skilled at Yang Tai Chi Sword as well as Push Hands. Terry’s primary purpose is to help students at all levels gain higher proficiency in the 60-posture Short Form, the Tai Chi sword form, and to further develop their Push-Hands skills in order to enjoy Tai Chi’s great health benefits to the fullest.

Terry Dunn is also very well-versed in the traditional 108-posture Yang style Long Form and the Cheng Man-Ching 37-posture form, both of which he had learned starting in 1980. If you have experience in these or other Yang style Tai Chi forms, Terry will get you versed in GM William Chen’s 60-posture form in no time.

Terry Dunn’s teacher, Grandmaster William C.C. Chen is a senior student of the great Chinese Renaissance genius Professor Cheng Man-Ching (1902 – 1975), a master of the “Five Excellences”–painting poetry, calligraphy, herbal medicine and boxing (Tai Chi).  This is the Professor’s resonating Taoist philosophy that is activated by the practice of his style of Tai Chi Chuan that you will learn at this workshop:

Terry Dunn has 43 years of experience in Chinese martial, yogic and healing arts and is a certified master instructor in Taoist Elixir Method (Tao Tan Pai) Kung Fu and Neikung, Southern Shaolin Five Animals Kung Fu,  Ehrmei Mountain Bok Fu Pai Kung Fu, and the rare Eight Sections of Energy Combined Kung Fu.  He is also the sole seventh generation preserver in the world of Flying Phoenix Celestial Healing Chi Kung (“Fei Feng San Gong”) created by Taoist monk Feng Dao Deh in 1644 at Ehrmeishan.

Terry is an advanced practitioner of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan in the lineage of Prof. Cheng Man-ching since 1980.  For the past six years, he has been the student of Grandmaster William C.C. Chen.  He had previously studied from the late Master Abraham Liu from 1980 to 1992.  In 1989, he produced two 2-hour video programs, Tai Chi For Health Long Form (108) and Tai Chi For Health Short Form (37), which today after 29 years are still the most successful and top-selling instructional Tai Chi DVD programs in the English language.  *Beginning students coming to the workshops are urged to get either TCFH title and practice the 45-minute “Warm-up and Basic Postures” module at the beginning of the program, which has been lauded by Tai Chi masters from several traditions outside of the Yang style.

The Best Ta’i Chi Course

January 17, 2019

If you are interested in learning the Yang short form, you have probably looked at UTbe examples or tried other CD’s; I sure did. THIS one with Terrence Dunn is far superior to any other I have ever seen, or any course I have taken. If you follow this throughout, you will have your best opportunity to really learn and understand the moves and the form, as well as information and philosophy.

Simple is always best!

March 14, 2006

Terence Dunn has created the quintessential short-form Tai Chi instruction for anyone wishing to learn and practice the art. Years ago I studied under a Tai Chi master from Taiwan. Although working with a master has certain other benefits, the instruction given by Terence is clearer and easier to follow than that which I received from the master. Had I had the benefits of both this DVD and the master, I likley would have not become discouraged and discontinued practice. If you have the advantage of working with a master, I recommend that you also use this program to give you a different perspective on the form, and to give you a tireless, omnipresent example to observe.

Best At-Home Tai Chi Instruction

November 11, 2012

Terry Dunn’s Short and Long Form Videos are excellent. Although there may be some variance from traditional Yang-family form, they provide an excellent foundation to learning the basics. With more independent study, these basics can be then refined and deeper insight attained. Very good value for quality Tai Chi instruction in warm-up exercise, form and flow.

Good source for exercise and relaxation

June 10, 2007

I tried out the VHS version, while recovering from surgery that preempted my usual exercise routine. I was so impressed with the straightforward presentation of the warm-ups that Mr. Dunn demonstrates and later the various Tai Chi forms, that I purchased the DVD. I am glad I did- now that I have recovered; I still use the video to supplement my daily exercises.

Zen Tai Chi

March 4, 2014

Terence gives great instructions on how to do Tai Chi and his warm up exercises are a must. This doesn’t mean it’s easy for someone who hasn’t done any exercising for years, but it’s a low impact program that most anyone can do. Just practice a little bit more everyday and soon you will be into the Tai Chi zone. Very Zen!

Tai Chi Relaxes

August 17, 2013

There are several forms of Tai Chi. In this DVD the Yang short form teaches body control, balance, and inner peace all in the middle of fighting stances. Though not taught for fighting, learning to control ones inner self is the first step to conquering an enemy. If you are up tight, nervous, and full of anxiety, learning this form of Tai Che is both easier and more effective than any yoga I’ve tried. It really works.

Yang Short Form

October 29, 2010

Terry Dunn is a master teacher and his DVD of the Yang Short Form is clear, concise, very learnable and lovely. After teaching the Tai Chi Yang Short form for many years myself, Terry’s DVD is the only one I recommend to my students. In fact, I highly recommend all of his DVD’s. His warmth and humanness exude in each one.
